Alice is sitting with her sister when she spies a White Rabbit with a pocket watch. Fascinated by the sight, she follows the rabbit down a hole. Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland drops curious young Alice into an underground world where she shrinks to three inches and then suddenly grows to an amazing height. In Wonderland, Alice meets the White Rabbit, the Cheshire-Cat, the Blue Caterpillar, the Mad Hatter, and ultimately the Queen of Hearts.

About Author

Lewis Carroll was born Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, in Daresbury, England, in 1832.

While still a boy, he wrote several verses and stories and invented games for children.

Carroll never married but enjoyed telling stories to his friends' children. In fact, Alice in Wonderland was first written for the amusement of Alice Liddel, daughter of the Dean at the college, where Carroll taught mathematics. The original text contained illustrations drawn by the author himself. The book was published in 1865.

Children were Dogson's inspiration, and the stories he spun were developed with the help of his little listeners.

The house where Lewis Carroll lived, a church has been built. However, it contains a memorial window showing Lewis Carroll and ';Alice' kneeling with the shepherds in the stable, at Bethlehem. In the panels below the main window are shown the immortal characters of the Duchess, the Dodo and the Mad Hatter. They are represented "as large as life and twice as natural".
